Hi everyone! Welcome back to the “unofficial” site of Six Sentence Sunday, which is continuing as a FACEBOOK Group. Thank you all for reading and for your great comments! I’m continuing with my military SciFi WIP, STORMS OF CONFLICT. This excerpt picks up at the point where the previous one left off, with the heroine, KAT, and her friend, JAMIE, trying to figure out who the young girl they found is, and what she may know about the bombing at a nightclub where members of the Earth Forces were killed.
The girl is brash and defiant. In the previous excerpt, she informed them that she won’t tell them a thing even under torture and duress. Is she brave or bluffing? …
Enjoy!…..
“Owww…hey, that hurt!”
Jamie was holding a strand of hair she had pulled from the girl’s head. “A DNA scan will tell us who she is, Kat.”
The girl looked daggers at Jamie who merely turned and sneered back at her. “Thought you said you could withstand torture.”
“Zoe Salazar, age 15, from Lorca colony,” I read aloud off the scanner as the data came up.
DNA is so annoying when you want to stay hidden. Nice snippet!
Excellent character development and personality reveals.
Yep, if pulling a single strand of hair bugs her that much, I don’t see her taking much torture. Another great six, Ryan.
This caught my attention. Why do they want to know who she is?
So much attitude to love in this snippet! Looking forward to more next Sunday!
Great six! Interesting concept that makes me want to know why they want to find out who she is so badly. Well done!
Intriguing that they could get a result so quickly!
I love how quickly they brought her down with a single hair! Buaahahaaha! Also, the scanner rocks.
Damn that tattletale DNA! I wish the analysis were that fast and easy. On the other hand, as caller ID killed teenaged prank calls, so too will quick and easy DNA analysis. Something to mourn.
Interesting! We still don’t know if she’s friend or foe, though. This scanner has me wondering, does it work with color treated hair? LOL
Love that. LOL, poor kid – so brave until she’s actually tested..
Pulling a hair out hurts? Forget the torture, then! And I’m guessing you already know this, but hair doesn’t actually provide DNA info–it’s that hair follicle at the base of the hair strand that has the info. So it’s great that you had it pulled out of her head (the follicle frequently comes with).
Ouch! pulling her hair out. Why does he want to know so bad? I loved it and can’t wait to see what happens next.
So much for keeping her secrets, and yeah, if she squeals at hair pulling, she’ll be easy pickin’s for torture. Great snippet, Ryan.
I agree with Gem–excellent characterization in this. I’m also intrigued by this. Excellent snippet.
Wow, that was fast and relatively painless! The girl has a lot to learn, it seems. Excellent excerpt!
I think she’s neither brave nor bluffing.
She’s ready to talk.
What’s her motive?
Oh, I wonder what other data is going to come up. Great excerpt!
A 15-yr-old near a nightclub, she’s definitely up to no good and I want to know what she’s up to. I’m so curious. More please.
Great six! Can’t wait to see what happens next.
